The heat interface units (HIUs) here were 7 to 8 years old and had become unreliable. An HIU does the job a boiler would do in a home on a shared heat network: it takes heat from the central system and turns it into heating and hot water for that home. These units had a history of leaks, and the replacement parts needed to keep them running were expensive.
For this home in Poole, we replaced the old HIU with a new Ideal Pod 405. The old unit shared a utility cupboard with the home's ventilation unit, so it had to be removed with care. The new Pod 405 then went in to work with the existing system, with new valves, fittings and copper pipework connecting it underneath to the existing pipes.
We also fitted Aquabion scale protection. It helps stop limescale building up inside the system, which protects the new unit and helps it stay reliable for longer.
Once everything was connected, we fully commissioned and tested the new HIU, setting it up and checking it works as it should.
The Ideal Pod 405 is a premium upgrade on the old unit. It's cleverly designed, gives better control over the hot water temperature and delivers reliable heating output. It also comes with a 2-year manufacturer's warranty.
If your HIU or hot water is giving you trouble, find out more about our hot water work.
